The Libyan National Oil Corporation announced that the Spanish company Repsol will begin exploratory drilling activities in the contract area of the Murzuq Basin in early April 2024.
This came during a meeting held at the Corporation’s headquarters in Tripoli, attended by exploration managers from both sides, as well as a number of specialists, to discuss Repsol’s exploration activity for 2023 and the projects expected to be implemented in 2024, according to a statement issued by the National Oil Corporation.
Abdel Moneim Boutayakh, Director of Exploration at the Corporation, stated that the company announced the start of fieldwork to prepare for drilling operations that are expected to begin in April.
Last August, the National Oil Corporation announced the success of drilling operations in an exploratory well belonging to the Sirte Company for Production and Manufacturing of Oil and Gas in the Murzuq Basin, reaching an average flow rate of 560 barrels of oil per day.
The meeting was attended by Director of the Exploration Department of NOC, Deputy CEO of OMV in Libya, Director of OMV Exploration Department and specialists from both parties.
